Script versions, regeneration, and review notes
Use a line edit to fix wording in an otherwise useful script. Use Regenerate Script when you want a different template or a different overall structure. Regeneration creates a new draft version, so review the new text before generating narration.
Before you begin, open a project with a generated script. If the project opens in the video editor, click Script to return to script review.
Choose the right kind of change
| What you want to do | Where to work |
|---|---|
| Correct a name, instruction, or sentence | The line’s pencil control, Edit script line text |
| Record a question about one line | The speech-bubble control, Add a review note for this line |
| Try another script style or change the introduction, outro, or transitions | Regenerate Script in the top toolbar |
| Remove one narration line | The line’s Delete this script line control |
| Remove an entire step and its scripts | The delete control on the step heading |
| See what changed in a version | History, then Edits |
For a small correction, keep the existing script and edit the relevant line. For example, changing “click Add” to “click Add filter” does not call for a new template. Changing a detailed tutorial into a short product demonstration is a reason to regenerate.
What an edit costs in narration
Narration is generated per step rather than per line, so editing one line marks that whole step's audio for regeneration while the other steps keep theirs. Grouping your corrections within a step costs no more than making one of them.
The first version of a script is the exception: while you are still on it, any change means the whole script's narration is regenerated rather than a single step's.
Check the language and version first
The language selector and version selector sit together above the script. Check both before reviewing or changing text.
- Open Script for the project.
- Select the language you want to work on.
- Open the version selector, such as Version 1 Current.
- Choose the version you want to review from the available entries.
- Check the displayed script and audio status before continuing.
The selector may contain only one version. Current is the version’s status label; it does not mean its voiceover is ready. A current version can still show Voiceover pending. Draft is the term used by the regeneration dialog for a newly regenerated script.
Choosing a version in the selector only opens it for review. It does not make it the current one. A draft becomes current when you click Generate Voiceover on it: the draft is promoted first, and the version that was current becomes an archived version rather than being deleted. You can still open an archived version from the selector.
Read the version label and audio status separately. This current script still needs voiceover generation.
Before a substantial rewrite, note the language and version number and keep a separate copy of any wording you want to reuse. The script toolbar includes a download control; you can also copy the passages you need into your own notes.
Regenerate with another template
Manual edits do not carry over. The regeneration dialog warns that manual edits to the current script will not be carried into the new script version. Keep any essential corrections or approved wording so you can check and reapply them when reviewing the draft.
- Click the circular-arrows Regenerate Script control in the script toolbar.
- Open Template and choose the style you want. The default choices include How-To Tutorial (In Depth), How-To quick, Product Demo / Ad, and Listicle Video. Available custom templates also appear here.
- Review the structure controls offered for the selected template:
- Include Intro includes an opening section.
- Include Outro includes a closing section.
- Include Transitions adds linking narration. Choose Steps or Parts to set the transition grouping.
- Read the manual-edits warning before clicking the dialog’s Regenerate Script button. To leave the existing script alone, click Cancel.
- Review the resulting draft for accuracy, missing details, and any wording you kept from the previous script before moving on to narration.
Regeneration changes the script’s structure and wording. The dialog identifies the result as a new draft version.
The script view marks structural narration with labels such as INTRO, TRANSITION, and OUTRO. Use those labels to check that the new structure fits the recording.
Leave a review note on a line
Use a review note for a question or requested correction, such as “Check whether this button is called Apply in the current interface.” To change what the narrator says, edit the script text itself.
- Locate the relevant line and reveal its line controls.
- Click the speech-bubble control, Add a review note for this line.
- Enter your comment in Note for this line.
- Click Save note, or Cancel to close without saving.
Notes have their own field and Save note button, separate from the narration text.
Put the context in the note itself so a reviewer knows what to check. Keep approved spoken wording in the script text rather than only in a review note.
Notes belong to the line, not to you. Anyone working on the project sees the same note and can overwrite it, so write them as team-visible comments and not as private reminders.
A note is never spoken. It stays out of the generated narration and out of the downloaded script file, so it cannot reach your viewers by accident.
A note stays with the version and language it was written on. Regenerating produces a new draft without the earlier notes, and each translated language keeps its own. Copy anything you still need before regenerating.
Delete a line or a whole step
Choose the control at the correct level and read the confirmation before proceeding.
- Delete this script line opens Delete this script line? and targets the individual script line.
- The step heading’s delete control opens Delete this step?. Its warning says it removes the step and all its scripts from this version.
Both dialogs warn that the action cannot be undone and offer Cancel and Delete. Copy any wording you need before confirming. If you meant to change a sentence, cancel deletion and use the line’s pencil control instead.
Review edits and exports for a version
Open the clock/history control beside the version selector. The Version … Details panel identifies the version and its status, then shows its template, voice, content-analysis mode, and generation settings.
- Check the version number in the panel heading.
- Select Edits to inspect recorded script changes.
- Expand a step to see its entries. An edit can show who changed it, when, the segment’s time range, and the text comparison.
- Select Exports to inspect exports associated with that version.
An edit record belongs inside a version. It is different from creating another numbered script version.
The Exports tab lists export numbers with version labels and can include Latest and Local badges. Its Restore Timeline action concerns an export’s timeline; use the version selector to navigate scripts.
Language variants also have their own scripts and version history. Select the language first, then inspect its version and history. See Translating Your Project for the language workflow.
Check narration before continuing to the editor
Review text and audio as separate stages. The script screen shows Voiceover pending with Generate Voiceover when narration still needs generation. A prepared script can show Audio ready and an Editor button; step headings also indicate whether audio has been generated.
If you change spoken words or choose a different final voice, the audio must match that change before you use it in the finished video. After revising or regenerating a script, check its audio status and listen to the resulting narration before exporting. The Preview video (for review) player is a review tool; its preview voice is distinct from the selected final voice. See Reviewing and Editing Your Script for preview guidance.
Before continuing, confirm the intended language and version, review its text, and check narration readiness. Use Generating Your Video for voiceover generation and Rendering and Exporting for final output.
Troubleshooting
My manual corrections are missing from the regenerated script.
Regeneration does not carry manual edits into the new draft. Reapply the wording you kept, then review it in context.
The version says Current, but I cannot go straight to the editor.
Check the audio status. Current and Voiceover pending can appear together; finish the script review before using Generate Voiceover.
I can see an edit in History but no additional version in the selector.
History records line changes within a version. Use Regenerate Script when you intend to create a new draft with another template.
I opened the wrong deletion dialog.
Click Cancel. A step deletion includes every script in that step; a line deletion targets the individual line.
